The Lifeforce audio amplifier was developed to address the intrinsic sonic
problems of solid state, push pull Class AB technology. It incorporates
highly innovative thinking, driven by both the engineering and the subjective
sonic issues of music reproduction. With solid engineering principles
in mind, the design cycle has focused on the audiophile listening experience,
and the inspired aim to transfer human emotion via the artform of music.
The justification for this is simple; people listen to music to
be moved, not to marvel at the elegance of the amplifier design.
While the subjectivist approach might be seen to downplay traditional
distortion measurements and technical considerations of linearity, preliminary
indications are that the Lifeforce has markedly reduced distortion over
other, more conventional designs. Distortion measurements and slew rates
are outstanding, but there will always be concerns that an amplifier which
measures well may not always be musical. This strongly indicates that
there is more to this technology than first appears, with the latest thinking
highlighting the significance of distortion spectra.
The Lifeforce 55 amplifier creates a presentation comparable to a very powerful, high quality tube amplifier, whilst delivering stunning resolution, a broad, deep and tall soundstage and a pure, extraordinarily engaging musical sound. Like many tube amplifiers, the AKSA 55 is best suited to quality speaker systems of 87dB/Watt/metre or higher.
The key features of the Lifeforce are the utter absence of intermodulation,
the startling transients, crystalline clarity, and palpable depth and
height of the soundstage. The midrange is forward and intimate,
promoting a full engagement with the music. The Lifeforce confers extraordinary
emotional communication to music, a feature regarded as unusual for a
solid-state amplifier, and a quality usually evident in only the best
tube amplifiers.
The designer, Hugh R. Dean, an Australian with an eclectic background
